+MusicMan2065  they go to one of the higher upperclass schools, so the language of the pupils would be english (the upper class schools in India are all coonducted using english)
also Tamil is a language common in a specific state in India. The teacher is from a different state which speaks a different language, this is why he says his Tamil is not that good. His main language to converse with is English.

This teacher cannot speak in his own language, or the language of the pupils. He should be embaressed, the girl should be embaressed, the mother should be proud.
